Good morning everyone (what's left of it, that is)!! Are you feeling cooped up due to all the snow? Are you wishing and dreaming of warm weather and sunshine? ....Me too!!...so here's a challenge for all of you...and myself....let's be the sunshine in someone else's life by putting a smile on, giving an encouraging word, praying for somebody, etc. Even if you have to do it for somebody in your own household that you've been cooped up with due to the snow ;) When you are the sunshine in someone else's life, then your life will be filled with sunshine, too.
Some other funny things I do to help shed a light in these cold, snowy days is....
I will purposefully dress in bright colors to make me think of the sun or warm weather and I will purposefully dress in summer clothes around the house to pretend it is actually warm and sunny outside, and at the same time, I wish upon a star that it will get warmer faster if I wear warmer clothes ;).
My encouraging word to you all for today is.......
There are less than..........
Starting new chapters in life can bring a "roller coaster" of emotions. Scary, worry, curiosity, sad, intriguing, exciting, happy, etc.
As you trudge up the hill on the track, you start to feel all of these emotions arise inside you. This is the point where you might look back and wonder if you are ready for this new chapter. Turning back around, you are nearing the top, and butterflies fill your inner-sides. Reaching the top, you now can see what is up ahead, and you feel anxiety and thrill well up inside you all at the same time and you are about to let out a scream. Then finally with your hands raised up high you come soaring down the hill screaming, with a whirlwind of emotions hitting your face. Once the big hill is over, there are many other hills, loops, curves, twists and turns to face but because you conquered the big hill, you can confront those other ones with ease...until finally the ride is over and you can sigh a sigh of relief. Looking back at what you went through, you can laugh and cry about the journey you went on to get to the end.
Every roller coaster is different to the rider, some may have to face smaller hills before they get to the big hill, or some may have more curves to go on before or after the big hill, either way, every ride has an ending to it....it's up to you and me on how we reach that ending. So how are you going to face and end your new chapter(s) in life?
Have you ever wished you could go back and do things over again? Maybe if you could, you might do things differently. Questions of "what if's" race into our minds when we contemplate on the past. Other questions arise such as: "why am I thinking this way?", "why do I want to change the past?", or "what would I change?", and "how would I change it?", etc.
The answers to these questions could be you were hurt in some kind of way, you made poor decisions and wish you could change them, something tragic happened that you wish you could have saved it from happening, and the list can do go on and on. As you ask yourself these questions, you reflect back on those times of hurt, confusion, disbelief, despair, and emptiness. As you reflect, your memory is so clear that you can actually start to feel the same feelings you did when certain moments in your past happened. Sometimes these past provoking thoughts come when your surroundings are similar to those how they were in the past, a conversation you may have that might stir up those past thoughts/memories, or these thoughts might come at random. Sometimes you linger on them and other times you brush them off. When you linger on those memories, do you ever make up a different picture or outcome then what the original memory was? Re-creating those memories in your mind might make you feel better in the present time, right?
Personally, sometimes I have those thoughts, and I ask myself all of those questions. However, in doing so, I have learned a lot. One of the biggest things I learned (and still learning, as I am only 23 years old) that everything happens for a reason (I am big believer in that now). Every moment, whether it happened in the past, is happening in the present, and will happen in the future all matter. All moments play a part in each other. If certain things did not happen in the past, then you would not be where you are today. Now sometimes things happen that are out of our control and it's in those times where it is hard to believe that there was a reason for it. However, I also know that you and I are capable of handling those hard times in your life and in mine because God will see you through it, and because what seems impossible for man, is possible for God. In fact there are Bible verses to back that up, and they include:
"No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But, when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it." --1 Corinthians 10:13
*When reading Corinthians chapter 10 in its full context, I realized this verse is referring more to being tempted. However, I wanted to use this verse to point out that even in hard times, God has our back. And He won't allow us to go through something that we as humans are not capable of going through...or did go through.
"Jesus looked to them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
*This verse is being used to reiterate the fact that through God, all things are possible. Therefore with God, the capability of handling rough, uncontrolled past occurrences is possible.*
It is also possible through God that we as humans can control our minds and thoughts. We don't have to linger on the past and regress about our past decisions. Once you seek and ask for forgiveness and help from God, then you can move on with your present and future life without having those draw-backs. Again, everything happens for a reason. If certain things in your past did not happen, then you would not be where you are today, and where you will be down the road.
God created you, me, and this universe. He orders our steps. He has a significant purpose for our lives to fulfill. Achieving that purpose might mean we have to go through some trials. The Son of God, in fact, went through trials and temptations, but the Son of God also knew that His Father was faithful, therefore the Son of God did not try to change the past (or the future) occurrences in His life.
So, I challenge you (and I continue to challenge myself) to not look upon your past occurrences as something you shouldn't have done or something you wish you would have done differently. Instead think of it as something you had to go through to make you who you are today.
Now, there might be times when God will allow you and me to "re-visit" those "not-so-nice" past memories to remind you and me of the times that God is always faithful and true. He might also allow those thoughts to come back to show you and me how far we have come from those situations. Again, He might allow them to come back in hopes to continue that growth in you and me.
However, unless you know for sure God is allowing you to "re-visit" those memories for a reason, I would try to stay clear of those "not-so-pretty" moments that happened in the past so that you can keep your eyes ahead of you...not behind you.
Focus on the road ahead of you through the windshield....not on the rearview mirror.
Numb toes and fingers, red noses and ears
Rosy cheeks, flush cheeks, dry cheeks
Cold-chapped hands and lips appear
Viruses and colds galore
Clogged noses, runny noses, raw noses
Stomach pains and AACHEWWSS at war
Wind howls, snow squalls, and storms surround
Dark skies, gloomy skies, wintry skies
Ice and snow fall to the ground
Silence and deadness linger in the air
Dead leaves, gone leaves, no leaves
Stillness and quietness in midair
Black ice, and snow covered roads
Caution! caution! caution!
Slippery and wet overload
Salt-covered roads and automobiles
Plow trucks, tow trucks, four-wheel drive trucks
Trails of white mess and dirty wheels
Bitter cold and below freezing temperatures
Brrrr, brrrr, brrrr
Coats, hats, gloves, scarves, boots, and heaters
Winter is here
Oh my, my, my
Winter is here, oh dear!
Good Morning Everyone!! We hope that you all are enjoying your Saturday so far!
As I sit here at the table eating my breakfast and drinking my coffee, I can't help but to be thankful on this February morning. Thankful for a well-rested night in a bed that has a mattress to lay on, and covers to keep us warm. And, as I awake, the first sights I see is my loving husband, and of course our three darling kitties. These sights are so precious to me, I don't know what I would do without them. They make life more enjoyable, and they make me who I am. And then, more importantly, every morning brings new mercies and grace from the God above. My husband and I get to live another day in God's presence, and to take in all the blessings and trials (which are blessings in disguise) that God has for us today.
There's so much to be thankful for each day, little and big things that happen in our day-to-day, mundane lives that we forget about, or just don't think about. We expect our stationary lives to stay stationary, and that our surroundings stay stationary. But, in reality, all those "common" things in our lives could be gone tomorrow, as we are not promised tomorrow, so we should make every moment count, and to cherish those moments.
I am choosing to be thankful today, and will do my best to be thankful everyday, and not loose sight of what God has given and has done for me as an individual, and for us as a couple...and will continue to give and do for me and us.
Will you join me in being thankful today, and everyday?! What are you thankful for today?
Say what??!...How do vampires relate to Christianity??...welll, they don't, actually (so please don't go watching it, if you haven't already, and think it is a Godly movie, cause it's not haha). I'm just using a point in the story and changing the perspective on it to share how something in the story can be made into a Godly perspective.
I think the relationship between the characters of Bella and Edward do, or at least it can be turned into a God-related topic...and here's why...
In the story, Bella's affection towards Edward is beyond a "normal" affection that typical relationships have, even in marriages. Bella is in constant 'need' of Edward, and she always wants to be with him. In fact, she would change her whole lifestyle in order to be "one" with Edward. A prime example of this is shown in the first book/movie called, "Twilight". When Bella and Edward have their first conversation in the science class/lab, Bella told Edward that she hated living in Forks, Washington because of all the cold and rain. But, after falling in love with a cold-blooded vampire, she started to love the coldness too, due to Edward himself being so cold at touch, and because the Cullen clan (Edward's family) liked to live in the colder climates. So, she was willing to give up her warm, sunny side to be with Edward's cold, rainy side. And, of course the whole idea behind Bella wanting to trade her mortal, human life to the immortal life of a vampire so that she could live with Edward forever is another prime example.
Looking at Edward's side of the story, he also desired to be with Bella all the time. His love for her was proven by protecting her, wanting the best for her, and loving her for who she was and wasn't. Examples of his love for her is shown throughout the series. He was always protecting her from other vampires who wanted human blood (eww). He tried to get Bella to change her mind about turning over to the "cold ones" (as Jacob Black referred to the vampires) side because he wanted her to live her life to the fullest and wanted the best for her.
Bella's relation to Edward is the same relationship people, especially Christians should have towards God. Our NEED for God should be so deep that we would trade our dreams and life to what God desires in us. Loving God should far exceed our love for anything or anyone else in our lives....including our spouses. I say this relates because Bella's love for Edward far exceeded her love for anything or anyone else in the story.
Desiring and longing to be with God should also be our focus, just like Bella longed to be with Edward. Living lives that pleases the One who made us, died for us, and rose again to prepare a place for us should be our hobby and determination while still on this Earth, just like Edward was Bella's determination.
Edward's relationship to Bella is how God relates to His people, I think. God wants to have relationship with everyone, in the same way Edward wanted and desired a relationship with Bella in the story. After all, God created each and every one of us, and with a purpose in mind. That purpose is to have a personal relationship with Him, and for us to share with others our testimony so to bring others to Him, as well.
So although the myths of vampires and the vampire story behind the Twilight series is not God-related, at all...if you dig deeper into the relationships the characters have, in particularly Bella and Edward's, you can pull out a deeper meaning behind them.
Our love towards God should be our number one focus. And, more importantly, God's love towards us is unconditional and unlimited. Praise God, right?!!
